A massive fire broke out at a soybean dryer in Gibson City Monday. Thick smoke could be seen for miles. The fire at International Flavors and Fragrances on Illinois Route 47 where proteins and oils are manufactured alerted several area departments about 12:30 pm. No injury was reported. To battle the flames, firefighters pumped water from a nearby pond because the city water is limited. The fire was contained around 4 pm. It is not known when the plant will be able to reopen.
