Watseka Fire responds to Iroquois Resident Home

A faulty steam pipe release led to a brief evacuation at the Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka (Monday).  Watseka Fire and area departments responded. No one was injured. Residents were allowed to return inside once it was determined there were no hazards, according to Watseka Fire Chief Ken Baier.

The chief said in a news release, a steam pipe broke in a bathroom wall when a water fitting failed.  Steam was released into the room.  Fire personnel discovered zero visibility with high heat in that room. Additional personnel was requested for the evacuation.  The line was able to be isolated and the room was cleared.

Fire back-up was provided by Crescent City, Woodland, Sheldon, Milford and Martinton.  Riverside Ambulance was on the scene.
