The people who make such a huge success of the Watseka Area Food Pantry will serve as Grand Marshal's of the Watseka Annual Lighted Christmas Parade. "Winter Wonderland" is the theme for Friday's parade begining at 7 pm. The not-for-profit Pantry promotes its Purpose "to share the love of Jesus with neighbors by providing individuals and families in Iroquois County with supplemental food and other essential supplies to meet their needs."
Since 1982, the Food Pantry has grown to meet the increasing need of food-insecurity throughout Iroquois County. The Food Pantry served nearly 5,000 neighbors in 2023. Those involved have distributed an estimated 150,000 pounds of food, including 261 Thanksgiving bags. The Food Pantry has been a help to people thru major floods, the COVID 19 pandemic and economic downturns.
The Food Pantry is a volunteer-run agency, calling home in the basement of the Watseka First United Methodist Church. Financial support comes from area churches, organizations, businesses, individuals and grants. Donations are always welcome.
