A 70-year-old Indiana woman is charged with murder, burglary and stalking after the death of her husband last week in Rensselaer. Stephanie Nagel, of Rensselaer, was also charged with burglary causing serious bodily injury to a dwelling and stalking with a deadly weapon. The case is in connection to the death of 71-year-old Phil Nagel. A Jasper County autopsy revealed Phil Nagel suffered a gunshot wound.
Rensselaer police responded to a residence (Monday 2/27) after Phil Nagel was discovered dead at a residence. A neighbor found the body inside the residence in the 700 block of W. Milroy Avenue. Rensselaer police, the Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Jasper County Sheriff's Department opened a murder investigation. Police said evidence from the scene and "surrounding areas" led them to begin investigating his wife, Stephanie Nagel, as a suspect. Investigators obtained additional evidence during a search of her Rensselaer home through a warrant. Mrs. Nagel is jailed in Jasper County.
