Police escort bringing Sheriff Corporal back home

Fallen Newton County, IN sheriff deputy Brandon Schreiber is coming home Thursday.  A police escort returns Deputy Schreiber to Newton County.  He died Wednesday at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

The veteran officer had served five years with the Newton County Sheriff Department.  He was shot in the line of duty September 1 while assisting Iroquois County deputies during a police pursuit.  An exchange of gunfire erupted at Sheldon (IL) after the pursuit entered Newton County, then returned to Iroquois County.

Corporal Schreiber's body was escorted to Springfield Wednesday.  A procession leaves Springfield at 9 am today, travels to I-57, then across Route 24 from Gilman to Deputy Schreiber's home in Kentland, IN.  The escort is expected to make a brief stop in front of the Newton County Sheriff's Office in Kentland.

A Blue Light Ceremony is scheduled at the Kentland Square at 7 pm Sunday.
