Motorists traveling along I-57/72 in Champaign County can expect delays beginning today, September 9.  The Illinois Department of Transportation begins work detail that will lead to the reconstruction of the Interstate 72 bridges. Crossover pavements will be built for the bridge work, which is set to begin in 2025.  

IDOT reports the left lane of I-72 will be closed in both directions.  Officials suggest using alternate routes and prepare for delays.  The work is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2026.
