Danville Area Community College is pleased to confer degrees and certificates during Commencement exercises on Friday, (May 17th) at the Mary Miller Gymnasium.
 
Nearly 200 graduates will participate in this year’s ceremony, while nearly 450 degrees and certificates will be conferred overall. For the fourth year, the ceremony will include graduates from both the Level I and Level II nursing programs. The nursing graduates will receive a Nursing Pin in addition to their certificates and diplomas.
 
Former State Representative William B. “Bill” Black, Ward 7 Alderman for the City of Danville, will deliver the Commencement address. Black is a Danville native with a long and distinguished career in public service including serving as Chairman of the Vermilion County Board. In 1986 he was appointed to fill a vacancy in the Illinois General Assembly left when Harry "Babe" Woodyard assumed a senate seat. Black was later elected to represent the 105th House District, a position he held for nearly 24 years. He retired from the State House in 2011 and was elected to represent Danville Ward 7 as a City Alderman later that year.
 
Bill Black is a DACC alumnus and former instructor and administrator at the College. Last year, a $5.2 million addition to the Mary Miller Complex was named for him in recognition of his many contributions to the College. The William B. Black Health Professions Center houses programs in nursing, radiologic technology, sonography, and echocardiography.
 
Black and his wife Sharon have two grown children and six grandchildren. Both Mrs. Black and their daughter are DACC alumni, as well.
