Projects Will Improve State's Infrastructure and Create Construction Jobs

KANKAKEE – Governor Pat Quinn today announced more than $11.6 million in capital investments for construction projects in Iroquois and Kankakee Counties. The upgrades are part of Governor Quinn's agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.

"These construction projects will improve transportation safety and efficiency in Iroquois and Kankakee Counties," Governor Quinn said. "Additionally, they will employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy, as well."

The projects will be administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Iroquois County...

The bridges carrying Interstate 57 over the Illinois Central Railroad south of Clifton will be upgraded for $5,977,777 by Dunnet Bay Construction of Glendale Heights, the lowest of three bidders.

Pavement patching will be done along Interstate 57 from the Ford County line to north of Gilman for $618,830 by Iroquois Paving Corporation of Watseka, the lowest of two bidders.

Interstate 57 will have about four miles of microsurfacing from 1.2 miles north of Illinois Route 54 in Onarga to 2.4 miles north of U.S. Route 24.
Microsurfacing Contractors, LLC, a Division of Byrne & Jones Enterprise, Inc. of St. Louis will do the work for $236,238.

Kankakee County...

Drainage improvements, parking lot resurfacing and sidewalk repairs will be made at the Kankakee River State Park by D Construction, Inc. of Coal City for $2,798,149, the lowest of four bids submitted.

Roadway cross- overs for the Interstate 57 bridges across the Kankakee River south of Illinois Route 17 will be built for $1,286,770 by Gallagher Asphalt Corporation of Thornton, the lowest of two bidders.

Patching and striping will be done on Illinois Route 1 from the Will County line to east of Grant Park for $377,543 by Gallagher Asphalt Corporation of Thornton, the lowest of four bidders.
