The month of May's unemployment figures shows COVID-19 has had an impact. Unemployment claims are way up in Illinois and across the country.  Iroquois County was at 8.5% in May, up from 3.3 percent a year ago. The Kankakee County rate in May was listed at 13.3%, dwon from 15.9 in April.  But it's also way up from 4 percent in May of 2019.  New unemployment numbers in Vermilion County for May was at 14.8%.  In May of last year it was 4.2%.
