High school band performances at their best -- Watseka's Marching Warriors were a Class 1A Best at the U of I Memorial Stadium. The Hoopeston Area Marching Cornjerkers finished First in 2A at the Dunlap Marching Invitational.
It was yet another successful weekend of band competition for the Watseka High School Marching Warriors. More than three dozen school bands performed at the U of I Memorial Stadium.
The Marching Warriors competed in Class 1A, winning Best Music, Best VIsual, Best General Effect and overall 1st-Place !
The Warrior Band is under the direction of Erik Parmenter.
The band was escorted home Saturday evening by the Watseka Fire Department along with a parade of community supporters.
The public is now invited to a special Community Appreciation Performance tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 8 pm on the high school football field. The band will perform the complete halftime show (2023 Shockwave) twice in uniform for anyone who would like to watch. Parmenter said the band members see and hear the support from the entire Watseka community throughout the season, and this is their way of saying thank you !
The band will also be performing at Friday's Warrior home game and on Saturday in the Effingham Invitational to finish their competition season.

Hoopeston Area High School earned a First-Place in Class 2A Saturday at the 4th Annual Dunlap Invitational. Under the direction of Brian Zielinski, The Marching Cornjerkers placed 1st in 2A and received Best Percussion in the competition's 2A division.
The Cornjerkers also scored highest in Visual Performance and General Effect. The 2023 production 'Of Myths and Monsters' wowed the crod at Dunlap's marching band invite. Director Zielinski extends a thnak you for the incredible community support. The Cornjerkers are excited to compete one last time in Effingham next week and then Tuesday, October 24 a final performance at the Hoopeston Fall Concert !
